Hahira Merchants are “bee-sy” preparing for their First Annual Honey Bee Scavenger Hunt this week.
Ever since the early 1920’s Hahira has been known as the Honey Bee Queen capital of the world, with the opening of Puett Company, that raised and shipped honey bee queens all over North America.
Thanks to long time residents, Mamie Sorrel and Adeline Landrum, the honey bee queen has become a celebrity in Hahira. These two ladies started the Honey Bee Festival in the early 80’s and this year will be the 37th Annual Honey Bee Festival.
The festival is a week-long event, and kicks off Monday, October 1st. There will be a variety of events taking place all week, culminating on Friday and Saturday for the actual festival.
There will be arts and crafts, food, music a parade and lot’s of folks strolling the streets of Hahira.
“We thought it would be fun to get the community more involved with the businesses by doing a scavenger hunt throughout the week, said Morgan Davis, organizer of the event.
