HAHIRA — Beautiful red flowers adorn the walkway leading up to the front door of the home of Mrs. Belinda and Mr. Don Yeager. Belinda is a Hahira resident who retired from the Valdosta State University admissions office and attends CrossPointe Church in Valdosta.
Belinda has been married to her sweetheart, Don, for 52 years! Together they have two biological children, Jimmy Don and Leanne; one chosen daughter, Debbie; six granddaughters; and two great grandsons.
Holidays are a special time for Belinda and her family with laughter, fellowship and always a big meal prepared by Belinda herself.
“I enjoy cooking for my family. Traditionally, we have Thanksgiving and Christmas here at the house and I cook at least one thing requested by each member of the family so I usually cook about 23 items including the traditional items,” Belinda said.
In her spare time, Belinda enjoys tending to her beautiful yard and cooking meals for her family. Her hobbies and interests mostly center around her family and include attending Lowndes Football games, band competitions, and South Georgia Allstars Cheer competitions to support her granddaughters. Both Belinda and Jimmy Don travel to sporting events and competitions in North Florida and all over Georgia to support their granddaughters. The couple is well-admired by the teammates of their grandchildren and Belinda is affectionally known as “Nana” by many of the children.
When asked what she is doing this summer, Belinda was excited to share about her upcoming cruise! Belinda and Don are going on their first cruise to Haiti, St. Martins, and Puerto Rico thanks to a gift given to her by her children.
“We have never been on a cruise so I am very excited. We are going for 8 days,” Belinda said.
After the cruise, Belinda and Don plan to visit family and friends in Gadsden, AL.
Belinda said she is the happiest when she is doing things with her kids, grand kids, and great-grand kids. She loves the small-town atmosphere of Hahira.
When asked how Belinda feels about her constant, on-the-go schedule she stated, “I love it, I absolutely love it.”
Having survived a brain aneurysm a few years back, Belinda is grateful for each day with those around her. She is always up for a game of spoons, Uno and goldfish with the children. She enjoys each day with them and sees it as a gift. “Our family is our life.”
